Mexico’s Best Lead and Zinc Intercepts in 2023

In 2020 the country produced twice as much zinc as lead (1 M tonnes Zn vs 468.5 K tonnes Pb). Results from the drilling of projects in Mexico also reflect the greater abundance of zinc over lead in the ground. Five companies reported results over 100 %*m for zinc, while only one did so for lead.

Pan American Silver’s results from La Colorada Skarn in Zacatecas where higher by an order of magnitude than those from the second on the list for both lead and zinc, with up to 332.4 m @ 4.1% Pb and 430.05 m @ 4.0% Zn.

Most of the projects in the two tables are part of intermediate sulfidation epithermal systems, but it is worth to note that the Colorada Skarn ore bodies are, as the name implies, skarn deposits. Furthermore, La Parrilla, Cordero and Camino Rojo Sulphides contain skarn mineralization, and probably the link to more distal skarn systems is to be established later on a few of the other deposits.
