Twenty companies released results from drilling programs in Mexico during the first quarter of 2025. The highest gold intercept was at Heliostar’s Ana Paula project in Guerrero, with 161 m averaging 4.26 gpt Au, including a 30 m subinterval just over 10 gpt Au. The drilling program at this project was focused on definition of the High Grade Panel, aiming to strengthen the case for underground mining.
The Ana Paula and Media Luna projects display the highest grades by a fair margin in the table below; The two are part of the Guerrero Gold belt, which is characterized mainly by skarn deposits, but with significant mineralization at Ana Paula in sulfide rich breccias and a late epithermal overprint. Other projects displaying skarn mineralization include Cerro Las Minitas in Durango, Bolivar in Chihuahua and La Parrilla in Durango. Bolivar is probably distal to a porphyry copper system, and at La Parrilla carbonate replacement (CRD) style mineralization is present, along with skarn and intermediate sulfidation epithermal mineralization.
Low sulfidation epithermal deposits are the most ubiquitous in the table, including Copalquin, Coneto and San Dimas in Durango, Santa Elena, Cecilia and El Tigre in Sonora and Bolañitos in Guanajuato. La Colorada in Sonora is still in this category, with a question mark until a visit erases some doubts. One deposit straddling the low sulfidation to intermediate sulfidation epithermal categories is Los Reyes, in Sinaloa. Projects with intermediate sulfidation epithermal mineralization comprise Tahuehueto in Durango, Alamos Silver in Sonora and Zacualpan in Estado de México. Two deposits that display intermediate sulfidation epithermal characteristics, that are probably distal to porphyry copper systems are Gran Pilar/Pilar in Sonora and Cristina in Chihuahua.
Summarizing, five deposits show skarn and/or CRD mineralization, while twelve more display low and intermediate sulfidation epithermal mineralization, one of which straddles these categories and two seem to be distal to porphyry copper systems.
