Mexico’s Best Drilling Intercepts, First Week of December 2024

Several companies released results from drilling campaigns from projects in Mexico during the week. Heliostar Metals presented high-grade intercepts from Ana Paula, in Guerrero, where the company is focusing in the expansion of the High Grade Panel. The three holes here reported better defined the northern edge of the High Grade Panel and beneath it. “To date, eight holes have been completed for a total of 2,860.1 meters. The focus of drilling will pivot to geotechnical and water testing of potential tailings facility locations before a return to resource drilling in 2025”.  This complex deposit has elements of skarn, carbonate replacement, strong brecciation and a low sulfidation epithermal overprint.

Also in Guerrero, and not too far Southeast from Ana Paula, Torex Gold released results from drilling at El Limón-Guajes (ELG) Underground. The program is focused on resource delineation and advanced exploration, targeting inferred resources and extensions to high-grade mineralization. “The style of mineralization at the El Limón Deep, El Limón Sur, Sub-Sill, and El Limón West trends is characterized by gold, with locally high silver and copper grades. Given that gold precipitates due to the buffer exerted by the early stage of calc-silicate alteration and sulfide mineralization, it is free and generally dissociated from the previous copper event mainly related to chalcopyrite”. The press release contains an interesting description of the geology and mineralization, and for those interested, can be seen here: https://gambusinoprospector.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/2024-12-03-Torex-Gold-Drilling.-torexgoldreso12022024-nr.pdf

Silver Storm’s results come from five holes with 1,182 m drilled on the Norte-Sur Zone, within the Quebradillas mine at its La Parrilla Silver Mine Complex, in Durango. The holes intercepted mineralization up to 180 m below the deepest levels of the mine, remaining open at depth and to the NW. This project has appeared frequently in this newsletter, here is a comment on the geology from its last appearance: Mineralization at La Parrilla project is complex, associated to the intrusion of an Eocene igneous stock and dikes into an Early Cretaceous sedimentary sequence. Intrusion-related carbonate replacement deposits and mesothermal fault-veins were proposed in the 2023 technical report as mineralization models, although skarn, skarnoid, hornfels and marble are mentioned as alteration assemblages.

Impact Silver released nice drill intercepts from the Tres Amigos Zone at its Plomosas mine in Chihuahua. All the intercepts below are are beyond the current active mining area and lie outside the JORC mineral resource, while “Other recent holes drilled on the extension of the Tres Amigos Zone mining area intersected low grades. Tres Amigos area mineralization remains open for exploration and drilling is continuing”. Mineralization of high-grade Pb-Zn is said to be strongly controlled by structure in a sedimentary sequence, favoring carbonate units. Although not said explicitly, it seems to describe a carbonate replacement (CRD) mineralization system.
