Nine companies released copper results from eight drilling programs in Mexico during the first quarter of 2025. The best copper intercept is from Torex Gold’s Media Luna project in Guerrero, with 60.90 m averaging 2.11% Cu. The results are from the Media Luna East zone, immediately to the east of the Media Luna underground mine.
Although most of the copper production in Mexico derives from mining porphyry copper deposits, there is not much of copper exploration by junior companies -which overwhelmingly publish drilling results- and none of the properties in the table below display that style of mineralization. There are three projects that present skarn mineralization within the top four rows: Media Luna in Guerrero, Cerro Las Minitas in Durango and Bolivar in Chihuahua, and the latter could be associated with a porphyry copper system.
Alamos Silver and El Tigre in Sonora and Tahuehueto in Durango show intermediate sulfidation mineralization, whilst Gran Pilar/El Pilar in Sonora and Cristina in Chihuahua can be classified as part of intermediate sulfidation epithermal mineralization distal to porphyry copper systems.
