Mexico’s Best Silver Drilling Intercepts in 2024

Mexico has been the top silver producer in the world for several years now, and the drilling intercepts in the table below support the case for the country to continue in the lead position for years to come.

As in last year review’s, results from five projects surpassed the 10,000 grade*meter mark this year, with the best silver intercept by far being the one from Pan American Silver’s 77.85 m averaging 568 gpt Ag (or 44,219 gpt*m), almost doubling the second-best result of Vizsla Silver at Panuco, in Sinaloa, with 13 m grading 1,861 gpt Ag (or 24,751 gpt*m). The three other projects to surpass the 10,000 gpt*meter mark were Los Reyes, from Prime Mining in Sinaloa, Silver storm’s La Parrilla, in Durango, and Columba, in Chihuahua, from Kootenay Silver.

A total of 21 projects presented results over 1,000 grade*meter, down from 39 on 2023, perhaps reflecting the reduced rates of exploration last year in Mexico. On ore deposit types, most fall under the shadow of the tree of epithermal deposits, with 21 out of the 26 on the list below belonging to that broad division, and even three of the remaining five presenting some intermediate sulfidation epithermal mineralization. A little bit more specifically, deposits that present Intermediate sulfidation epithermal mineralization comprise Panuco in Sinaloa, Columba Cerro Los Gatos (production) and Cerro Los Gatos Exploration in Chihuahua, La Colorada and San Acacio in Zacatecas, El Tigre and Alamos in Sonora, Pitarrilla in Durango, Zacualpan in Estado de Mexico. Projects that present intermediate sulfidation mineralization and that are probably related to porphyry copper systems include Cristina in Chihuahua, and Pilar and Diamante in Sonora. Low sulfidation mineralization projects include Los Reyes in Sinaloa, Copalquin and San Dimas in Durango, San José in Oaxaca, Santa Elena (Navidad and Ermitaño) and La Colorada? in Sonora and the Valenciana Mine Complex and Pinguico in Guanajuato. Of the remaining five, La Colorada in Zacatecas and the Morelos Complex in Guerrero are examples of skarn alteration and mineralization, while La Parrilla in Durango and Camino Rojo Sulfides in Zacatecas display carbonate replacement, skarn and intermediate sulfidation mineralization.

To note is the fact that even if intermediate sulfidation deposits are the most common with high silver intercepts, the highest one is from the skarn deposit at La Colorada Skarn in Zacatecas.
