Fuerte Metals was the only company to post results from a drilling campaign in Mexico during the week. The intercepts released are from the Cristina project in southwestern Chihuahua, where Fuerte has now reported 20 holes totaling over 5,400 m of a 21,000 m program that intends to produce a new mineral resource estimate with focus on underground mining. According to Fuerte Metals, the deposit is an epithermal to mesothermal vein system with at least four parallel vein zones hosted in andesites of the Lower Volcanic Sequence of the Sierra Madre Occidental range. From the description of alteration and mineralization on the 2023 technical report, it is strongly apparent that the epithermal mineralization is likely related to a distal portion of a porphyry copper system, with silicification, chlorite, epidote, secondary biotite, local K-feldspar and tourmaline associated to early alteration and veins . “High grade gold tends to be in banded quartz veins with calcite replacement textures, adularia and amethyst and always associated with lead, zinc and copper. Most veins have widths ranging from 4 to 10 meters. In some areas, quartz-rich veins are older and cut younger massive sulfide veins, giving the impression that there are many stages of overlapping mineralization ….. Mineralization is closely associated with andesite porphyry intrusions and epidote-tourmaline alteration. The porphyry style alteration and veining is cut by a later stage of banded quartz-carbonate veins, which formed within major faults”.
