Mexico’s Best Copper Drilling Intervals in 2024

Most of published copper drilling intervals in Mexico during 2024 came from programs where copper was just a by-product, being notable the absence of the type of mineralization that really can have an impact: Porphyry copper deposits. Of course, the entries in the table below do not include the exploration by Grupo Mexico and Peñoles, which could make a difference.

The two highest intercepts are from skarn deposits, with Torex Gold’s results coming from the Morelos Complex in Guerrero, where current gold production is accompanied by copper and silver grades; these intercepts are followed by Pan American Silver’s results from La Colorada Skarn in Zacatecas, where copper is probably to become a sub-product to silver-lead-zinc production in the future. Complex deposits that include CRD, skarn and intermediate sulfidation epithermal mineralization include Camino Rojo in Zacatecas and La Parrilla in Durango. Intermediate sulfidation epithermal deposits with copper values include Cerro Los Gatos in Chihuahua and Alamos in Sonora. Finally, deposits that could be distal to porphyry copper mineralization comprise the intermediate sulfidation epithermal projects of Pilar in Sonora and Cristina in Chihuahua, and the skarn deposit at La Adelita in Sonora.
